White Wash Sand Dunes OHV Area
9,000 acres of pure sand playground near Moab.
White Wash Sand Dunes sprawl across 9,000 acres of pure sand playground just northeast of Moab, where the Colorado River carved out this massive bowl of white sand centuries ago. The main access follows a wash bottom that opens into an amphitheater of towering dunes reaching 100 feet high, with technical climbs up the steepest faces and wide-open racing areas across the flats. The Entrada Sandstone rim provides natural boundaries and epic photo ops looking down into the sand sea.
Moderate difficulty for most of the area, but those big dune faces will challenge even experienced drivers with proper sand tires and recovery gear. Best from October through April when temperatures stay reasonable – summer heat turns this place into a furnace. No permits required, but bring plenty of water, extra fuel, and a good GPS since landmarks disappear quickly in the sand. Pure adrenaline rush for those who want to pin it in deep sand without the crowds.
