This dispersed area sits on rolling grassland hills within the monument, offering scattered sites with panoramic views across the Carrizo Plain. Sites are informal pullouts along ranch roads, most suitable for single rigs with decent leveling on the natural grade. No shade, no water, no services — bring everything. Spring wildflower blooms can be spectacular in wet years, and night skies are exceptional with minimal light pollution.
Access roads are decent dirt but can become muddy and impassable when wet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F with no relief. Best visited October through May when temperatures are tolerable and wildflowers possible. Expect wind most afternoons. Area can be completely empty for days, then suddenly busy during peak wildflower season.
