The Alabama Hills’ weathered granite formations create one of California’s most recognizable landscapes, with natural arches, balanced rocks, and spires rising from desert floor. Movie Road winds through the heart of these formations, passing the famous Mobius Arch and dozens of other rock features that served as backdrops for films from Hopalong Cassidy to Iron Man. The contrast between the rounded granite boulders and the sharp Sierra Nevada peaks creates dramatic sunrise and sunset photography opportunities.

Movie Road is well-graded dirt suitable for any vehicle, though side spurs to specific arches may require higher clearance. Winter brings snow to the Sierra backdrop but the hills themselves remain accessible year-round. No facilities exist along the route — bring water and pack out trash.
