Desert Rat started in 1975 as a family tire business that began selling 4×4 gear, and it’s still family-owned. The 19th Avenue store in north Phoenix is a proper parts counter. Expect tires and wheels, bumpers, lift kits and suspension, plus winches and recovery gear like straps, shackles and traction boards. They also carry overland camping items and tools. There’s a second Phoenix store on East Bell Road if that one’s closer to your route.

This is a good last-chance stop before heading into Arizona’s desert and high country. Pick up a spare shackle, a snatch strap or a set of tires. It’s a metro store, so traffic and parking are what you’d expect. Posted hours run Monday to Saturday with Sunday closed. Hours and inventory change, so verify ahead.
