Wilpena Pound Resort Campground
Wilpena Pound Resort is the hub of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, with powered and unpowered sites among the river red gums and cypress pines. It’s one of the few Outback camps with real amenities: hot showers, a general store, a fuel pump, and a restaurant on site. Sites get busy during South Australian school holidays and long weekends, so book ahead. Roos, emus, and the occasional yellow-footed rock-wallaby wander through camp. Wilpena Pound itself is a ring of quartzite ranges, and the walk to Wangara Lookout and the Pound rim starts near the resort.
The road in is sealed, so any vehicle can reach it, and the rougher tracks to Brachina Gorge and Bunyeroo Valley are a short drive away. Summer is brutally hot, so aim for April through October. Fire rules are strict and total fire bans apply in summer, so check ahead. Confirm current rates and booking details with the resort.
