Spitzkoppe Campsite — Community Campsite Beneath the Granite Peaks
Spitzkoppe is a cluster of bald granite peaks rising out of the Namib gravel plains, and the community-run campsite is one of the best overland stops in Namibia. Sites are scattered among the boulders, and some sit right under overhangs with their own bit of shade. Amenities are basic: simple toilets, and some sites have fire pits. Bring your own water and firewood and plan to pack out your trash. Fees and rules are set locally, so verify ahead. Expect to pay at the entrance gate.
Access is by gravel road off the tar between Usakos and Uis. A regular 2WD can make it when the road is graded, but washboard and soft sand patches inside the area make high clearance or a 4WD the better call. Climbing the rock arch and exploring the Bushman’s Paradise rock art are the big draws. Cooler months from roughly May to September are best. Summer heat is serious. Cell service is patchy, so tell someone your plan. Have a dirty day.
