Tuttle Creek Campground — BLM Alabama Hills Recreation Area
Tuttle Creek is a BLM-run campground tucked against the base of the Eastern Sierra, southwest of Lone Pine and just south of the Alabama Hills. Sites are spread out under open sky and boulders with big views of the Sierra crest, and it’s a quieter alternative to the Whitney Portal crowd. Expect vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings, but plan on bringing your own water and verify current services and fees with BLM before you commit. Wind can howl through here at night, so choose your pitch with that in mind.
Access is a short dirt road off the Horseshoe Meadows Road, usually fine for any vehicle but washboarded and sandy in spots. Best in spring and fall; summer is hot and winter nights get cold fast. Fire restrictions come and go, and the Alabama Hills dispersed areas nearby are first-come, so it’s a reliable fallback. Resupply and fuel are in Lone Pine, a few miles away.
Have a dirty day.
