Camping Puri Ckamur — San Pedro de Atacama Desert Basecamp

Established Campground

Puri Ckamur sits inside San Pedro de Atacama proper, a walled campground with basic but genuine infrastructure: clean shared bathrooms, cold showers, shaded pitches under queñoa and tamarind trees, and enough flat ground for medium rigs. This is the logical staging point before running Paso Sico, Paso de Jama, or any of the high-altitude volcanic routes east of town. The vibe is dusty, international, and practical — expect solo overlanders, Euro moto riders, and the occasional 4×4 convoy sharing intel around the picnic tables.

San Pedro sits at roughly 7,900 ft and the camp fills fast during Atacama high season (July–September). Stock water, fuel at the YPF/Copec on Licancabur, and confirm vehicle papers before heading east — the Gendarmería checkpoints at Sico and Jama are real. Cell signal is solid in town; once you leave the altiplano grid, it vanishes fast.

Last real beds before the Puna swallows you.
