Camping Toubkal — Club Alpin Français Imlil Base Camp

Established Campground

Sitting at roughly 1,740m in the Mizane Valley, the Club Alpin Français refuge and adjacent campground at Imlil is the most recognised established overnight stop in the High Atlas. It’s not a soft option — this is a working mountain base. Pitches are on terraced ground, there are basic toilet blocks, running water when the pipes cooperate, and a refuge kitchen for hot food. The vibe is expedition-practical: trekkers, mule teams, and the occasional overland rig parked outside share the same dust. Gets crowded April through June and again September–October.

Imlil sits at the end of the paved road from Asni off the N9 Marrakech–Tizi n’Test highway. High-clearance 2WD handles the approach fine. Cell service is spotty in the valley. Confirm current CAF rates and capacity directly — management and pricing shift seasonally. Good launching point for Anti-Atlas loops via Ouirgane and the Tizi n’Test pass corridor.

High Atlas basecamp, no-frills mountain anchor.
