Djebel Siroua Volcanic Plateau — Taliouine High Piste Dispersed Camp
The Djebel Siroua massif rises to around 3,304m and dominates the high ground between Taliouine and the Tataga Pass corridor. Overlanders running the Anti-Atlas piste via the Siroua spine will find wide, wind-scoured plateau shoulders where you can pull off the piste and camp on firm volcanic soil with commanding views across the saffron country below. No facilities, no fees, no other rigs — just basalt rubble, sparse argan and juniper, and big Milky Way skies. Siroua is saffron-growing country; the lower approaches around Taliouine will have Berber villages and terraced fields, so camp high to stay out of cultivated land and respect local boundaries.
Access is via unmarked pistes — high-clearance 4WD essential, especially after winter snow or spring melt. The plateau is most reliably open May through October; snow can block upper tracks November through April. No water on the plateau — carry all you need from Taliouine before heading up. Cell signal is effectively zero above 2,500m.
Highest volcano flanks, zero crowds, massive sky.
