Wapiti Campground — Athabasca River Valley (Jasper National Park)

Established Campground

Wapiti is the workhorse campground of Jasper National Park — big, well-maintained, and strung along the Athabasca River about 4 km south of Jasper townsite on Highway 93A. With over 300 sites across multiple loops, it handles everything from truck-and-trailer rigs to rooftop tents without feeling cramped. Fire pits, flush toilets, showers, and a dump station are all in play. It stays open year-round (one of the only campgrounds in the park that does), which makes it the default for shoulder-season and winter overland runs up the Parkway. Elk wander through camp routinely — keep food locked.

Reservations are mandatory during peak summer through Parks Canada’s reservation system. Walk-in sites are available off-season. Cell service is spotty at best. Road surface into the campground is paved. The Athabasca River views from the lower loops are worth picking your site carefully.
