Kara-Alma Pass — Fergana Range Southern Spine Viewpoint above Arslanbob

Point of Interest

Kara-Alma Pass sits on the southern Fergana Range above Arslanbob, pushing into walnut and juniper forest at elevation before breaking out onto open alpine ridgeline. From the saddle you’re looking down over the UNESCO-recognized Arslanbob walnut forest — the largest natural walnut forest on earth — with the Jalal-Abad lowlands stretching out to the southwest and the Babash-Ata massif punching into the skyline behind you. No infrastructure up here, no crowds in the classic sense, just wind, grazing horses, and an honest view that earns every kilometer of the climb.

Access is via rough dirt track from Arslanbob village — high-clearance 4WD required, especially after rain when the clay surface turns slick and unforgiving. Best tackled June through September. Snow closes the pass by late October. No fuel, no water, no signage — come prepared and verify conditions locally before departing the village.
