Auberge Bab Sahara Campground — Atar Desert Town Basecamp
Auberge Bab Sahara sits in the heart of Atar, the main town and supply hub for the Adrar region. It’s a walled courtyard setup — the kind of place where you park the rig inside the gate, throw the rooftop tent up, and actually sleep without sand in your face. Facilities are basic: squat toilets, bucket showers, and a small kitchen that can produce a tagine if you ask ahead. It runs warm and communal. Other overlanders passing through — mostly French and Spanish rigs heading toward Chinguetti or Terjit — show up here regularly. Don’t expect luxury; expect a clean, safe courtyard in a Saharan town.
Atar is the last real fuel and supply stop before the Amogjar Pass and the piste east toward Chinguetti. Stock water here. The auberge is well-known enough that locals and guides can direct you to it without an address. Busy in the cooler months (November–February); near-empty in summer heat. Cell signal exists in town — use it while you can.
