Oued Seguellil — Adrar Reg Plain Dispersed Camp
The Oued Seguellil is the seasonal watercourse that drains the Adrar plateau between Atar and Chinguetti. Out here on the reg — flat gravel desert punctuated by low dunes and scattered acacia — overlanders running the Piste de l’Adrar Mauritanien pull off the piste and camp directly on the compacted gravel or sandy riverbed margins. No facilities of any kind. Flat, exposed, and vast. Nights are cold in winter, brutally hot in summer. The silence and star density are genuinely staggering. You will share this space with nothing but the wind and the occasional passing camel caravan.
Access requires a capable 4WD and ideally a local guide or GPS track — piste markers are nonexistent and navigation by landmark alone is unreliable. Carry all water from Atar. Best season November through February. Permit from the Adrar Regional Authority technically required for travel in this zone — sort it in Atar before departure. Have a dirty day.
