Chilkoot Trail Corridor — Log Cabin Flats Dispersed Camp
Log Cabin sits at the historic Log Cabin townsite on the South Klondike Highway (BC-2), roughly 15 km south of Carcross. The flats here have been used as a roadside dispersed staging area for rigs heading into the Chilkoot Trail corridor or pushing toward Bennett Lake via the old rail grade. Spruce and alpine scrub frame the site, with the White Pass peaks looming to the southwest. No facilities — flat gravel, room for a couple of rigs, and silence except for the occasional freight truck.
Access is straightforward on paved and well-maintained gravel off the South Klondike Highway. Weather turns fast at this elevation — snow is possible any month. The area falls within Parks Canada’s Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site buffer, so check current fire restrictions and camping regulations before you set up. No open fires during high-risk periods. Cell service is essentially zero out here.
