Fraser Crossing — Klondike Highway Bennett Lake Narrows Viewpoint
Fraser, BC sits just north of the White Pass summit on the Klondike Highway at the southern tip of Bennett Lake, where the WP&YR rail line and the highway share a narrow bench cut into the mountains. The lake stretches north toward Carcross, cold and gunmetal grey under any sky. In 1898, this pinch point funneled tens of thousands of Klondike stampeders — by boat, by sled, by sheer desperation. Today it’s a Canadian customs zone and a genuine geographical squeeze: the mountains drop straight into the lake and there’s almost no shoulder. Pull-off is tight and brief, but the view up the lake is worth stopping for.
The area sits inside Canadian jurisdiction — you’ll clear Canada Border Services at Fraser if northbound. No facilities at the viewpoint itself. Season runs May through October before the highway becomes hazardous above Bennett Lake in shoulder months. Cell is nonexistent here. Good fuel stop protocol: top off in Skagway before crossing; next reliable fuel is Carcross, YT.
Klondike stampeders bottlenecked here. So will you.
