Fada Town Campground — Ennedi Region Desert Basecamp
Fada is the main administrative town of the Ennedi region and the undisputed launching point for any serious run into the Ennedi Massif, including the northern piste toward Archei Guelta and Bachikele Canyon. The town compound campground — operated informally through local gendarmerie-adjacent hospitality and established tour operator conventions — offers a flat sandy courtyard, basic shade from thorn-tree structures, and access to the town’s water supply. It’s rough, it’s real, and it’s what you’ve got before hundreds of kilometers of nothing. Expect a handful of 4×4 expeditions at peak season (December–February), near-empty in the brutal summer heat.
This is your last guaranteed fuel opportunity before the deep Ennedi piste — fill every jerry can. Water can be topped here but treat everything. No cell signal to speak of. Road in from Abéché is rough piste and sand; high-clearance 4WD with sand recovery gear mandatory. Verify gendarmerie registration requirements before departing — they will find you if you don’t.
Last real basecamp before the Ennedi swallows you.
