Durack River Station Campground — Gibb River Road Eastern Corridor
Durack River Station sits roughly halfway between Wyndham and Kununurra on the Gibb River Road’s eastern approach, right where the river crossing demands respect after any decent rainfall. The campground is a classic Kimberley station setup — flat cleared sites under river gums, basic but functional amenities including flushed toilets, cold showers, and a fire pit at each site. It draws a mix of grey nomads and 4WD crews working the eastern Gibb corridor before or after tackling the Pentecost River crossing and Cockburn Range run. Busy season runs May through September; outside that window you’re likely alone and need to check if the station is taking campers.
Access is via the Gibb River Road which is unsealed and corrugated — high-clearance 4WD strongly recommended once you’re past the bitumen. Check road conditions with Main Roads WA before committing. The river crossing itself can close this section entirely in the wet season.
