El Questro Station Campground — Cockburn Range Gorge Country

Established Campground

El Questro Station sits at the eastern end of the Gibb River Road corridor, sprawled beneath the blood-red walls of the Cockburn Range. The main campground runs from budget bush sites on the Emma Gorge side through to powered sites near the homestead. It’s a genuine basecamp — Zebedee Springs thermal pools, Emma Gorge, and the Pentecost River crossing are all within striking distance. Busy as hell in peak season (May–August), so book ahead or show up at dawn. Station store carries basic supplies and fuel.

Access is via the Gibb River Road, sealed for the last stretch into the station. High-clearance 4WD needed for gorge tracks off the main station roads. The Pentecost River crossing nearby is tidal and level-dependent — check with station staff before attempting. No fires in peak dry season. Phone signal effectively zero once you’re in the gorges.
