Mojave National Preserve — Kelbaker Road Corridor Dispersed Camp

Pull off the pavement and you’re in it — open creosote flats with the Providence Mountains hulking to the east and the Kelso Dunes visible to the south. This is legal dispersed camping on BLM-managed land within the Preserve boundary, away from developed facilities, with zero amenities. Sites are whatever flat ground you find well clear of the road. Nights out here are proper dark — no light pollution, plenty of wind, and the occasional coyote chorus. Fire restrictions apply most of the year; verify with the Preserve before you light anything. Best used as an overnight fuel stop on a Mojave Road run rather than a basecamp.

Access off Kelbaker Road is straightforward for any high-clearance rig; the pavement is the road. Push 300 feet off the shoulder on a two-track to get legally clear of the right-of-way. No water, no shade, no facilities. Summer is brutal — October through April is the window. Cell service is essentially nonexistent out here.
