Menindee Lakes Campground — Kinchega National Park

Kinchega National Park sits right on the doorstep of Broken Hill and the western end of the Siberia Track. The NPWS campground at the Menindee Lakes sits under massive river red gums on flat, open ground beside the lake system — it’s quiet, photogenic, and genuinely remote-feeling despite being close to Menindee township. Pit toilets on site, some fire rings, and easy access to the Darling River Loop drive. Expect star skies that’ll make your neck ache. Busy in winter with grey nomads; near-empty in summer heat.

Access from Menindee is on a maintained dirt road — manageable in a 2WD when dry but greasy after rain. Water is not potable on site; fill up in Menindee before you roll in. Bookings through the NSW National Parks app are recommended peak season (June–August). Self-registration otherwise. Campfire restrictions apply during total fire ban periods — check NPWS before you go.
