Big Pines Campground — Angeles National Forest
Big Pines sits right at the junction of Highway 2 and Big Pines Road on the Angeles Crest, around 6,900 feet elevation. It’s one of the most accessible developed camps in the area — paved in, vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and a ranger station a short walk away. The site count is modest and the vibe skews toward families and weekend car campers, but overlanders use it as a solid base for the upper Lone Pine Canyon country and nearby Big Rock Creek OHV trails. Gets busy in summer and on holiday weekends, so plan accordingly.
Paved access straight off Hwy 2 means any vehicle can reach it — no clearance required. Adventure Pass or day-use fee required. Snow is real up here from November through March, and the highway itself can close with storm events. If you’re running Lone Pine Canyon Road and want a place to sleep with a toilet and a flat site, this is your most reliable bet in the immediate area.
