Montrose — US-50 Downtown Fuel and Full Resupply
Montrose sits at the eastern foot of the Uncompahgre Plateau on US-50 and is the primary staging town for the Flattop Mountain Road traverse. Multiple fuel stations along Townsend Avenue, a City Market and Walmart for groceries, Tractor Supply for hardware and basic recovery supplies, and several motels if you’re doing a shakedown night before heading up. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is 15 miles east if you have a spare afternoon.
This is where you fill tanks, top off water, and check tire pressure. Once you head up Dave Wood Road or the Divide Road toward the plateau, services are gone until you drop off the far side toward Delta or Gateway. Elevation here is around 5,800 feet — the plateau will add another 3,500 feet of climbing. Full cell service in town; plan your offline maps before you leave.
Last full resupply before the plateau.
