Trans-Labrador Highway — Manic-5 Reservoir Shoreline Dispersed Camp
Pull off the Trans-Labrador Highway near the Manic-5 dam corridor and you’re camping on the edge of the Manicouagan Reservoir, a 1,942 km² impact crater lake that looks like nothing else in North America. The shoreline is open boreal — spruce, rock, and water. No services, no facilities, no signs. Just you, the reservoir, and whatever weather is rolling in off the plateau. Fire rings are user-built; pack out everything.
Access is via the Trans-Labrador Highway (Route 389) north of Baie-Comeau. Road is paved to Manic-5 but conditions deteriorate north of the dam. Spring and early summer bring black flies in biblical numbers — plan accordingly. Cell service is essentially zero past Manic-2. Best window is late June through September before first snowfall hits the plateau.
