Auberge Chez Julia — Hassilabied Dune Edge Camp
Chez Julia is a fixture at Hassilabied, a small settlement sitting right against the dunes a few kilometres north of Merzouga. The camping area is basic: tent and rooftop-tent pitches in the courtyard, cold-water showers, squat toilets, and meals cooked to order. What you’re paying for is position — you can walk into the dunes from the front door at sunrise before the 4×4 tour traffic arrives. The vibe is quieter and more local than the Merzouga strip; fewer hawkers, more sand.
Accessed via a short piste off the sealed road — manageable for any vehicle when dry but soft sand can catch unprepared drivers right at the auberge approach. Confirm directions locally as signage is inconsistent. Peak season runs October through March; summer heat at this elevation is serious and the site is largely empty July–August.
Quiet dune-edge camp north of Merzouga.
