Delphi Lodge Road — Glenummera River Water Source and Valley Pull-In
The Glenummera River drains the steep quartzite slopes of the Mweelrea massif and runs cold and clear through one of the least-travelled valleys in County Mayo. The road from Leenane toward Delphi Lodge follows the river closely, and several pull-ins along the lower section give direct access to the water for filtering and resupply. The valley itself is hemmed by big mountains on three sides — Mweelrea to the west, the Sheeffry Hills to the east — and the silence here is complete. No facilities, no services.
The road is narrow, single-track with passing places, and perfectly manageable in a standard overlanding rig but not suitable for large trailers through the tightest sections. Water should be filtered; sheep grazing is heavy on the upper slopes. Access from Leenane village on the R335, then follow signs toward Delphi. Best visited outside summer school-holiday weeks when tourist traffic on this road picks up.
Cold mountain river in Connemara's wildest valley.
