Kallur Lighthouse — Kalsoy Northern Peninsula Trailhead

Trailhead

Kalsoy is a narrow, mountainous island north of Klaksvík accessed by a small car ferry from Klaksvík harbour. The ferry takes roughly 20 minutes and runs limited sailings per day — miss it and you’re camping. From the end-of-road village of Trøllanes, the trail to Kallur Lighthouse climbs steeply along a ridge with vertical drops to the North Atlantic on both sides. The lighthouse itself sits on a headland with unobstructed views toward Kunoy and the open ocean. The trail is unmarked in places and narrows considerably near the top. Wind is a constant variable — gusts can hit 60+ km/h on exposed sections without warning.

The trailhead is at the road end in Trøllanes. No facilities at the trailhead. Sturdy footwear is mandatory — this is not a casual stroll. Ferry schedule is seasonal; confirm departure times at the Klaksvík harbour terminal or via the Strandfaraskip Landsins ferry operator website before committing your vehicle to the crossing.

Ridge walk. Atlantic drops. No guardrails.
