Klaksvík — North Faroe Resupply Hub and Harbour Staging

Town / Resupply

Klaksvík is the commercial and fishing hub of the northern islands, sitting in a natural fjord harbour on Borðoy. If you’re running the Norðoyar island chain — Viðoy, Svínoy, Kunoy — this is where you sort yourself out before things get quieter. There’s a real supermarket (Miklagarður), at least one petrol station, a pharmacy, and a bakery that opens early. The harbour is genuinely impressive: deep-draught fishing vessels alongside the docks, surrounded by steep grassy peaks on three sides. It’s one of those towns that still smells like fish and diesel in the right way.

Klaksvík is connected to Streymoy via the Norðoyatunnilin subsea tunnel — the longest in the Faroes at around 6.3 km, toll applies. From here you can stage for the ferry to Svínoy and Fugloy, or push north on Route 70 toward Viðareiði, the northernmost village in the islands. Cell service is solid in town. Don’t leave without fuel — northern island options are thin.

Last real resupply before the northern islands.
