Canning Stock Route — Well 9 Dispersed Camp
Well 9 comes early in the southbound run from Halls Creek and gives travellers a solid benchmark camp to dial in their rig setup before the track gets properly remote. The country here is red sand and spinifex with scattered desert oak — striking in the morning light and brutal by midday. Multiple vehicles can camp spread around the well site. Restored well infrastructure gives it a reference point on the ground, but bring everything you need — there’s nothing else.
Access from the north via Billiluna (Mindibungu) community — note that travel through the community requires respect for local protocols, and the CSR passes through Aboriginal lands requiring permits in sections. Confirm current requirements with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions WA before departure. Track condition varies with rainfall. This is the easy end of the CSR — don’t let it fool you about what’s coming.
First big camp south of Halls Creek on the CSR.
