Box Canyon Road Dispersed Camping
This dispersed camping area sits along Box Canyon Road in the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains, offering scattered sites among oak trees and desert grassland. Most sites can handle large rigs with careful selection, though some require high-clearance vehicles. Fire rings present at established sites, but bring your own water and pack out trash. Excellent night skies away from Tucson’s light pollution.
Access via Box Canyon Road off Highway 83 — about 8 miles of decent dirt road that can get muddy after rain. Popular with hunters during season (August-January) and can fill up on weekends. No facilities, no cell service. 14-day stay limit enforced.
