Tubac Presidio State Historic Park

Arizona's first European settlement with camping, historic adobe ruins, and easy access to the AZBDR southern terminus.

This compact state park sits right in the historic village of Tubac, preserving the ruins of the 1752 Spanish presidio and offering a small campground with full hookups. The site includes a museum, visitor center, and walking trails through the archaeological remains. It’s one of the few established campgrounds near the AZBDR’s southern start, making it a solid base camp for trail prep or recovery.

The campground fills up during winter months when snowbirds flock to the area. Access is directly off Highway 89, about 45 minutes north of Nogales. The park stays open year-round, though summer temperatures can be brutal. Tubac village has galleries, restaurants, and basic supplies within walking distance.
