Quebrada del Condorito Córdoba Sierras Circuit
Condor canyon through Córdoba's mining sierras
The old mining road into Quebrada del Condorito punches through Córdoba’s most technical terrain, where massive limestone outcrops force you into wheel-spinning climbs and rocky descents that test every piece of your suspension. The route starts near Mina Clavero, following ancient mule tracks used by 18th-century silver miners to access the high sierras. Past the abandoned Mina La Elvira workings, the track deteriorates into loose shale and granite slabs, with the infamous Paso del Cóndor requiring precise line choice through house-sized boulders. The canyon narrows dramatically before opening onto the high plateau where Andean condors nest on impossible cliff faces.
Difficult rating demands experienced drivers and modified rigs with skid plates and aggressive tires. The limestone can be greasy when wet — avoid December through February during storm season. Stock high-clearance 4WD can attempt it in dry conditions, but expect paint damage. No services exist beyond Mina Clavero, so carry fuel for 300+ kilometers. The payoff is massive: camping at 2,200 meters surrounded by jagged peaks, watching condors soar at eye level, and exploring silver mine shafts that still echo with pick marks from 200 years ago.
