Palmetto State Park Ottine Swamp Boardwalk
This wooden boardwalk leads deep into one of Texas’s most unusual ecosystems — a dwarf palmetto swamp fed by artesian springs. The 15-minute walk feels like stepping into Louisiana bayou country, complete with alligators, herons, and towering cypress trees. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best wildlife viewing.
Park entrance fee required. The boardwalk can be slippery when wet. Mosquitoes are brutal in summer, so bring repellent. Winter months offer the clearest views through the vegetation and comfortable walking temperatures.
