Finger Lakes National Forest Texas Hollow Dispersed Area
Texas Hollow feels like a secret even though it sits in New York’s only national forest. The dispersed area follows an old farm road down into a wooded hollow between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes. Four to five sites accommodate everything from tents to large RVs along the seasonal creek that runs through spring and early summer. Stone foundations from 1800s homesteads add character to the camping area.
Access from Picnic Area Road, then 1.2 miles on the rough Texas Hollow trail. Stock vehicles can make it dry, but the clay and shale surface becomes treacherous when wet. Popular with equestrian groups on weekends during summer. The area connects to the extensive trail system used for horseback riding and hiking.
