Cascadas de Yumbilla Trailhead
The trailhead sits in the village of Cuispes, accessible via a brutal 4WD track from Chachapoyas. While technically in Peru, many overlanders approach via the Colombian border through Leticia, making this a key waypoint for Amazonian basin exploration. The trail to the 2,938-foot waterfall system requires a full day and local guide.
The final 15km to Cuispes is rough 4WD only, especially during rainy season (November-April). No facilities at the trailhead — bring everything. Local guides can be arranged in the village for about $30. Cross-border logistics from Colombia require advance planning for vehicle permits.
