Desert Discovery Center Barstow

This modern facility serves as the premier interpretive center for the Mojave Desert, offering comprehensive exhibits on desert wildlife, plant communities, geology, and the area’s rich cultural history spanning Native American peoples to railroad and mining eras. Located just off I-15 in Barstow, the center makes an ideal resupply and education stop before heading deeper into the desert. The facility includes a well-stocked gift shop with regional maps, field guides, and desert-appropriate gear. Staff are knowledgeable about current conditions throughout the Mojave and can provide valuable intel on road conditions and seasonal considerations.
