Valley of the Gods BLM Dispersed Camping
Valley of the Gods offers scattered free camping spots along a 17-mile dirt road that winds between massive red sandstone buttes and mesas. The scenery rivals Monument Valley without the crowds — expect towering formations, wide desert vistas, and incredible sunrise/sunset light. Most spots accommodate rigs up to 30 feet, with fire rings already established at popular sites. No facilities, but plenty of room to spread out and find privacy.
The loop road is usually passable for high-clearance 2WD when dry, but can become impassable when wet. Access from either US-163 near Mexican Hat or UT-261 near Goosenecks State Park. No permits required, 14-day limit. Popular with photographers and stargazers — expect some company during peak seasons but still plenty of solitude compared to nearby developed areas.
