Tallulah River Natural Swimming Area
This unofficial swimming spot sits along the Tallulah River where granite bedrock creates a series of natural pools and slides. The water runs cold year-round (rarely above 65°F even in summer) and crystal clear, fed by mountain springs upstream. Popular with locals and overlanders running nearby forest roads, especially during hot summer afternoons. No facilities or official designation, just a wide spot along the riverbank with room for 4-5 vehicles.
Access via a rough 0.3-mile dirt track off Forest Road 70, requiring high-clearance but not necessarily 4WD. Can be muddy after rain. Camping not permitted, but Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Site campground sits 6 miles upstream. Watch for slippery rocks and swift current during spring runoff.
