Camping Municipal de Sintra
This municipal campground sits in the hills above Sintra, Portugal’s UNESCO World Heritage town famous for its romantic 19th-century palaces and gardens. The terraced sites have hookups and decent shade from pine and eucalyptus trees. Facilities include hot showers, laundry, and a small café that serves surprisingly good pastéis de nata. The town center with its famous palaces is a 20-minute walk downhill, but it’s a lung-burner coming back up.
Summer brings crowds of European tourists, and the campground fills quickly during festival season. The narrow access road winds through residential neighborhoods with some tight turns that might challenge larger rigs. Train connections to Lisbon run regularly from town, making this a decent base for exploring the capital without dealing with city camping hassles.
