Parc National de la Vanoise Camping de la Vanoise
Camping de la Vanoise sits at 1,400 meters in the heart of the French Alps, serving as base camp for exploring France’s oldest national park. The terraced campground offers 150 sites with basic facilities including shared toilets, cold water taps, and a small grocery hut. Dramatic granite peaks and hanging glaciers surround the valley, making this a spectacular spot for alpinists and hikers tackling the GR5 and Tour du Mont Blanc routes.
Open June through September only, as heavy snow closes mountain access roads for eight months. The final 3 kilometers are on narrow mountain road with sharp switchbacks — not suitable for large RVs. Book ahead for July and August when European outdoor enthusiasts pack these alpine valleys. No hookups or hot showers, but the setting more than compensates.
