Multnomah Falls Columbia River Gorge
Multnomah Falls plunges 620 feet in two distinct tiers — the upper falls drops 542 feet while the lower cascade adds another 69 feet, connected by the stone Benson Bridge built in 1914. The falls flow year-round from Larch Mountain’s watershed, heaviest during winter and spring snowmelt. A paved quarter-mile trail leads to the bridge viewpoint, while the steep 1.2-mile trail climbs to the top overlook with panoramic Gorge views.
Parking fills early on weekends and summer days — arrive before 9 AM or after 4 PM. The Historic Columbia River Highway provides scenic access, but watch for ice in winter. The visitor center offers restrooms and trail information, though the main attraction needs no interpretation — it’s been drawing crowds since the early 1900s.
