Chocolate Hills Geological Formation
The Chocolate Hills are a geological phenomenon where 1,268 cone-shaped hills spread across 50 square kilometers of Bohol’s interior. During dry season, the grass covering turns chocolate brown, giving these 40-120 meter tall limestone formations their name. The main viewing complex has a 214-step stairway to an observation deck with panoramic views across the endless sea of perfectly rounded hills.
Access is via sealed roads to Carmen town, then a short drive to the viewing complex. Best visited early morning or late afternoon for photography. The area gets crowded with tour groups mid-day. Rainy season (June-October) keeps the hills green, which is less dramatic but still impressive.
