Mangart Saddle Viewpoint

Point of Interest

The Mangart Road climbs through 22 hairpin turns to reach this spectacular saddle between Slovenia, Austria, and Italy. From here, the view takes in Triglav, the Kanin massif, and the entire Julian Alps chain. It’s the highest point you can drive to in Slovenia, and the narrow mountain road is an adventure in itself. Small parking area at the top fills quickly in summer.

The road is typically open May through October, snow-dependent. It’s narrow with no guardrails in places — not for nervous drivers or wide rigs. Start early to avoid crowds and afternoon thunderstorms. The road starts in Bovec and takes about 45 minutes of steady climbing.
