Playa Zihuatanejo Dispersed Beach Camping
The north end of Zihuatanejo’s main beach offers informal camping on the sand between the fishing pangas and palm groves. Local fishermen are generally welcoming as long as you respect their morning routines and launch areas. No formal facilities, but several beachside palapas sell cold drinks, fresh seafood, and basic supplies during the day. The bay provides good protection from Pacific swells, making for calm swimming and paddling.
Access is through Zihuatanejo’s coastal neighborhoods — follow signs toward Playa Principal and look for vehicle access near the pier area. Sand can be soft in places, so air down if needed. Camping is technically unofficial but widely tolerated. Watch for high tide lines during full moons, and be prepared for early morning fishing activity starting around 5 AM.
