Goosenecks State Park Overlook
This cliff-edge overlook drops a thousand feet straight down to the San Juan River’s famous entrenched meanders — some of the most perfect river bends on the planet. The viewing area sits on slickrock with metal railings, offering unobstructed views of the river’s serpentine path through deep red sandstone. It’s a quick stop but worth the detour, especially at sunrise or sunset when the canyon walls glow. No facilities beyond pit toilets and a small parking area.
Access via Utah Highway 316 from US-163, about 4 miles on paved road from the turnoff. The overlook area can get crowded with tour buses during peak season (spring and fall), but early morning visits are usually quiet. Winter visits are possible but check road conditions — the park doesn’t get much maintenance attention in snow.
