Lost Lake Campground — Kebler Pass Road, Gunnison National Forest
Lost Lake Campground sits right off Kebler Pass Road in the Gunnison National Forest, west of Crested Butte. It’s a small, no-frills Forest Service camp in the aspen and spruce, near Lost Lake Slough and the trails that spill toward the Raggeds. Expect pit toilets, a fire ring and a table at each site. Bring your own water and treat anything you pull from the lake or creek. This is as close to a proper campground as you’ll get without leaving the pass road.
The camp is a short roll off a graded dirt road that any careful passenger car can handle, though washboard shakes things loose. The main window is summer into early fall, and late September is when the aspens turn and the camp fills up. Snow closes Kebler Pass for the winter, so don’t count on early-season access. Fire restrictions come and go with the dry years, so check with the Forest Service before you light anything. Fees, site count and reservation rules change, so verify with the Gunnison Ranger District before you head out.
