Ohio Pass Road (FR 730) — Gunnison National Forest Dispersed Camping
Ohio Pass Road runs through Gunnison National Forest and ties the Kebler Pass corridor to the Ohio Creek drainage toward Gunnison. Dispersed camping here means pulling into the existing, previously used sites along the road: aspen groves, creek-side flats, and a few spots with a view back at the West Elks. It sees a fraction of the traffic Kebler does, so you’ve got a decent shot at a quiet night even on a summer weekend. Fall color brings a crowd, though. Bring your own water, pack out your trash, and expect no services.
The road is graded dirt and gravel and usually fine for a stock rig in dry weather, but rain turns it greasy and washboard builds up as the season goes on. Stay in established sites and on public land only, since private parcels sit near the road. Standard national forest dispersed rules apply, with a 14-day limit. Check current fire restrictions and road conditions with the Gunnison Ranger District before you roll out. Snow closes it into early summer, so verify ahead. Have a dirty day.
