Wickersham Dome Trailhead — White Mountains NRA Pullout Camp
Wickersham Dome sits right off the Elliott Highway at about Mile 28, roughly an hour out of Fox. It’s the trailhead for the Summit Trail into the White Mountains National Recreation Area, run by BLM. Expect a gravel parking area with room for a handful of rigs, a vault toilet, and ridgeline views of spruce, birch, and open tundra. It’s dispersed-style overnighting. No hookups, no hosts, no water. Pack in what you need and pack out your trash. Fires are generally fine where the ground allows, but check current Alaska fire restrictions before you light one.
The lot is paved-highway access, so any vehicle gets in. Summer brings mosquitoes in thick clouds, so bring bug gear. Hunters and hikers use it heavily in late summer and fall, and it fills on weekends. Winter turns it into a snowmachine and dog-mushing staging area, so don’t block the plowed spots. Verify current conditions and rules with the BLM Fairbanks District Office before you go.
Have a dirty day.
