Arch Canyon — Bears Ears Canyon Mouth Dispersed Camping
Arch Canyon cuts into the east side of Comb Ridge off UT-95, inside Bears Ears National Monument. Camping near the canyon mouth is primitive dispersed BLM ground with no facilities, no water, no trash service, and no reservations. Expect a few flat pullouts under cottonwoods and juniper, and nothing marked. Bring all your water and pack out everything. Check current BLM fire restrictions before you light anything. Spring and fall bring the most traffic from Jeepers and hikers.
The road in follows the canyon floor and crosses Arch Creek over and over. Water depth swings with snowmelt and monsoon storms, so scout it before you commit. The upper canyon is rough, narrow, and slow. Washes here flash flood, so don’t camp in the drainage bottom when there’s weather on the mesa. Cell service is none. Know your current route and permit rules with the BLM Monticello Field Office before you roll in. It’s roughly 40 miles from Mexican Hat. Verify access, coordinates, and conditions ahead of time.
