This restored 1918 Union Pacific depot served as the famous North Platte Canteen during WWII, where volunteers served free meals to over 6 million servicemen passing through by train. Today it’s a small museum with clean public restrooms, vending machines, and usually a volunteer or two happy to share local knowledge about backroads and conditions.
Right downtown on Front Street, easy to spot by the vintage railroad cars parked outside. Open Tuesday through Saturday, but the exterior facilities are accessible 24/7. Good cell service and free wifi inside when open.
Historic depot with facilities and local knowledge.
